Jamal Lowe scores brace against Notts County to secure promotion for Portsmouth

Jamal Lowe came off the bench to score two goals that secured promotion for Portsmouth to League One.

The 3-1 win for Portsmouth against Notts County, coupled with Luton Town’s inability to win at Mansfield Town ensured Pompey would gain promotion from League Two.

The win made it two promotions in two seasons for Lowe, who secured promotion last season into the National League South with Hampton & Richmond Borough having won the Isthmian Premier Division title in 2016.

The scoreline at Meadow Lane was level at 1-1 before Lowe was introduced from the bench on 68 minutes for Carl Baker.

Nine minutes later Lowe made it 2-1 after cutting inside and curling a shot from outside the penalty box into the back of the net.

In the 90th minute, with promotion all but secured, Lowe scored his second by beating the offside trap before cooly finishing.

Speaking after the game, Lowe hailed his best feeling from playing Ryman Premier Division football last season to gaining promotion to League One.
